Diane Rios is a Portland, Oregon illustrator, print maker and watercolor painter. She is inspired by vintage illustration from the 1930's through the 70's as well as bold, graphic street art and often incorporates both elements in her work. From animals to architecture, etchings to spray paint stencils, Diane uses a variety of illustration techniques to relay her vision of the humanity in the lines and creatures of the world around us,and finds no end of subjects in Portland's historic streets and surrounding natural areas.

Diane Rios lives with her husband and daughter in Portland, Oregon. She currently works as a full-time bookseller at Powell's City of Books, and ardently collects french children's books as inspiration for her work.

on the importance of art:

"Art gives us the freedom to feel without immediate definition. In a culture of sound-bites, buzzwords and relentless categorization art brings us room to absorb the delightful shock of beauty."
